How to Protect Your iPad

Now that you have shipped the Steve Jobs Kool-Aid, make sure you protect your investment. The iPad has a 9.7" screen that is extremely vulnerable to scuffs and scratches. I would suggest putting a screen protector on right out of the box. There are various types of protection but I have selected two products to take a look at and review. Since the iPad is a relatively new product, the amount of products out there is still a little sparse but I have selected the two best, in my opinion.

The first product is the Invisible Shield by Zagg. Zagg is known for making military grade material to protect your device. The Invisible Shield for the iPad features a clear cover for the front and back of your iPad. Also, you can just purchase protection for the back or protection for the front individually. The Zagg was listed in PC Mag's "12 Coolest iPad Accessories" and has a lifetime replacement warranty for the entire life of your device, which is really cool. The full protection package will run you 39.99 and the individual front/back screens are 29.99. So it really makes more sense to just roll with the full protection package.

The Zagg is only a screen protector so it definitely won't protect against drops. So, to keep your iPad safe when it's in your butterfingers check out the Quirky Cloak Case. The cool thing about this case is that it will protect your iPad against accidental drops but it also doubles as a stand for your device. The stand feature works in both landscape and portrait views and will run you 42.00. I think that is a small price to pay for peace of mind. So you not only get the protection but it also gives you a nifty stand to watch movies on. I think that is what we call a "two-fer". The Quirk comes in several stylish colors so you can customize your iPad to fit your personality.

When it comes down to it, it is a no brainer to protect your investment. Depending on what you plan to use your device for, how much you will travel with it and how careful you are with the device will really determine the level of protection you will need. I prefer to go Au Naturale with my iPad because I think the screen shield takes away from the lustrous screen but I am more careful than most when it comes to my devices. I have friends who can't keep from dropping their devices and they smartened up and started protecting their devices right out of the box.

Common Ipad damage

The Apple iPad is all the rage now in the tech community, with millions of units having been ordered in the last few months. And that means that inevitably some of these tablet computers will suffer from accidental damages and breakages. So are there options for iPad repair, or does it mean that you have to just purchase a new on to replace the one you broke?

Fortunately, there are already several online companies that are trained and licensed to offer iPad repair. For a much lower price than it would cost you to buy a new iPad, you can usually get it fixed and shipped back to you by one of these well-trained businesses.

The most common damage that is seen in iPads tends to be a broken or cracked screen (which makes sense, since the iPad screen takes up pretty much the entire front of the unit). Luckily, the screen has little to actually do with the processing equipment on the inside of the computer, so it's a problem that can probably be fixed pretty easily.

In fact, there have already been cases of iPads that were so badly damaged that you would think they could never be repaired--and they were still made to look like new by an iPad repair company. Don't take it for granted that your equipment can't be repaired by a business that knows what it's doing and practices professionalism.

Because of their size and relative fragility, the iPad can be easily dropped, sat on, stepped on and a hundred other things that tend to break it. If this happens to you, don't go right out and buy a new one. Instead, look online for a trustworthy repair company.

Ipad LCD replacement

Many Ipad users know the feeling - the second the handset slips away within the hand, the heart skips a beat, the hands try clumsily to catch it, and nearly in slow motion, the eyes watch in horror as the Ipad bounces a couple of times on the floor. Face up is lucky, face down, not so much, and as soon as picking the phone up of off the ground reveals a crack within the face, everybody starts to offer their condolences.

At this point, users must consider two possibilities. The first is that only the exterior glass has been cracked, that is certainly the situation if the screen still displays the normal Ipad interface. This methods that the butter-fingered Ipad user in question is lucky, the liquid crystal display, or LCD, is nevertheless intact, and replacement exterior glass pieces are much less pricey to replace than may be the LCD. However, if the screen has gone blank, the LCD of the dropped IPad has been ruptured, meaning a lot more expensive repair is in order, that of an Ipad LCD replacement.

By definition, when an Ipad LCD replacement is in order, the exterior glass screen need to also be replaced, as so that you can break the LCD, the exterior glass need to first be broken. However, even though this methods that the Ipad in question has been substantially damaged, it doesn't mean that the handset needs to be discarded. Though a relatively expensive fix, Ipad LCD replacements are a pretty popular procedure, and exterior glass replacement is really common. Each of these procedures, even in combination, are substantially much less expensive than replacing an Ipad in its entirety.

Ipad LCD replacements are a relatively hard procedure, and one that most users will probably want to have handled by a professional Ipad repair person. However, users who possess a high level of technical competency is going to be in a position to perform the replacement themselves, meaning that these users require only purchase the replacement LCD and a new exterior glass piece. Even users who decide to obtain a professional take care of the replacement might need to examine around for prices of replacement LCDs, if for no other reason that to know what the repairman should be charging for the parts. The labor costs of having the new LCD and exterior glass installed are generally nominal; making the outsourcing of this work to trained professionals typically one of the best choice for all users except those people with expertise in taking apart and reassembling computers, electronics, and/or in particular Ipads.

While cracking the face of an Ipad is by no means a fun experience, a broken LCD and glass screen usually are not reason enough to replace an otherwise functioning Ipad. Ipad LCD replacements are increasingly becoming a commonly performed repair, meaning that they're gradually decreasing in price and inconvenience, and you will find more replacement Ipad parts on the market every day. So instead of trashing an Ipad right after a bad drop, users need to remember that almost every part on an Ipad can be replaced, meaning that in most cases, an injured Ipad can be brought back to life at a fraction of a price of a new one.

Apple Ipad preview

Tomorrow is the big day. We are now just a day away from the public release of the Apple iPad
If you are in the US, you will get the first opportunity to buy an iPad. The rest of the world will have to wait some weeks.

But what is an Ipad?

The iPad is a tablet computer developed by Apple Inc. Announced on January 27, 2010, it is positioned in a category between a smartphone and a laptop computer.

Similar in functionality to a larger and more powerful iPhone or iPod touch, it runs a modified version of the same operating system (iPhone OS),[8][9] with a user interface redesigned to take advantage of the larger screen.[10] The iPad has a 9.7-inch (25 cm) LED backlit multi-touch display, 16 to 64 gigabytes (GB) of flash memory, Bluetooth, and a 30-pin dock connector to sync with iTunes and connect wired accessories.[3] Two models have been announced: one with 802.11n Wi-Fi and one with 802.11n Wi-Fi and 3G (which can connect to HSDPA cellular networks), and Assisted GPS. Both models may be purchased with three different storage capacities

So there are two Ipad models ,the Ipad Wi-Fi and the Ipad Wi-Fi + 3G, with three different storage capacities. Let’s have a look at the Ipad models and how much they cost.

Wi-Fi Only Models
16GB - $499.00
32GB - $599.00
64GB - $699.00

Wi-Fi + 3G
16GB - $629.00
32GB - 729.00
64GB - $829.00

Ipad Wi-Fi + 3G models will be released at the end of April, while the Wi-Fi only version will be shipped tomorrow. However I believe it’s worth waiting to get the Ipad Wi-Fi + 3G model because of the extra connectivity.

CrazyTalk7 for the Mac inspires you to create your own animation

My son is a media student and is always looking out for the new software that enables him to be more creative, he spotted CrazyTalk7 and nagged me until I got it for him.

CrazyTalk7 brings a unique approach to movie-making and what my son has created is just amazing, it’s like his a professional already. He has created my wife and me as characters and has captured mannerisms perfectly.

He’s shown me the process of creating your own character and the features that define the character like audio lip-sync, facial puppeterring and auto animation.

I downloaded the Mac app for just $29.99, which I think is a steal for what it provides and now is an essential tool for my son and his media work.

He has created amazing videos for his course and he saves them to iMovie for editing and uploads them to YouTube to share with other students.
